United Church of Christ Challenges Licenses of Two U.S. TV Stations
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two Washington area television stations should not have their broadcast licenses renewed because they failed to meet requirements for airing children's educational programing, advocacy groups said on Wednesday. The groups said the airing by Paxson Communications Corp.'s WPXW station in Manassas, Virginia, of "Miracle Pets," and by News Corp.'s UPN station WDCA in Washington of "Ace Lightning" and "Stargate Infinity" should not count toward the minimum three hours of such programing they must air each week.
The Office of Communication of the United Church of Christ Inc., the Center for Digital Democracy, and the Institute for Public Representation urged regulators to deny the renewals because the shows were not designed for children, to educate them, or were not regularly scheduled as required.
