US Secretary of State Collin Powell is engaging in some creative diplomacy in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He’s meeting with Israeli opposition leaders and moderate Palestinians who have drafted a new peace plan. The hawks in Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s government are livid. But Powell has the support of President Bush on this one. Representatives of the National Council of Churches have been urging the US Administration to take a more proactive role in this conflict. This could be the start of something good.
