Is Rush Limbaugh Heading To Jail?
Thursday, December 04, 2003
Police seized Rush Limbaugh’s medical records today in their probe of his illegal drug use. Limbaugh has admitted addiction to prescription painkillers. It appears Limbaugh obtained the drugs from his maid as part of a possible illegal drug ring. Limbaugh’s defense: his back hurt. You can be sure that if Bill Clinton or Jesse Jackson admitted to illegal drug use that Rush would be calling for something just short of the death penalty. If Limbaugh had any integrity he’d be turning himself in right now and demanding a long prison term for himself. That won’t happen. Limbaugh’s hypocritical nature is again exposed. But at least one person who shows consistency in his beliefs has come to Limbaugh’s defense.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson had this to say about Limbaugh (who has certainly never had a kind word for Jesse):
Well, my position is that non-violent drug offenders should go into rehabilitation. Rush Limbaugh believes that they should go to jail. He believes he should go to jail; I don't believe he should go to jail. If the laws are not changed, then he should go, as others have gone. If he wants to change the law, then he and others should have rehabilitation. The last twenty years has seen the rise of the jail-industrial complex for non-violent offenders, with a significant dose of race stereotyping, police profiling, vicious prosecutors, and ambitious judges, and often over-reaching legislators. By that I mean the legislative branch has sought to take away judges' judgment. They've taken away from judges' latitude to exercise judgment. It was three strikes and you're out. It was a kind of politically acute statement for the politically connected and wealthy it does not apply. Governor Bush's daughter has stepped over the law and gained an exception. President Bush's daughter stepped over the law and gained an exception. Rush Limbaugh has stepped over the law, and significantly so. If you abide by the law, the present law, and the law as enforced, he would go to jail.
