Whatever you think about Hillary Clinton – and I’m not inclined to support her because of her support for the Iraq war – the senator’s candidacy for the presidency is a remarkable event for a nation that just a generation ago excluded women from the corridors of power. How far have we come as a nation? When I was a baby my mother carried me in her arms at a protest demanding that women be admitted to The Citadel in Charleston. Now a woman serves as the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and my daughters have every chance to witness a woman sit in the Oval Office. If you want to thank someone for this amazing transformation feel free to thank Judith Bright, my mom, and all those women who have spent their lives opening doors for others.
