This weekend the president spoke about his efforts to expand care for veterans:
As NPR reported, the efforts being made by the president are critical.
I know from my own work with people experiencing homelessness that many veterans become homeless and I've called on our community not to repeat the mistakes of Vietnam with veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan - but we have done just that.
Today veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq are living on American streets without the support they deserve. Religious leaders, including those in the United Church of Christ, have been calling for additional assistance for veterans of our most recent conflicts for years.
President Obama is to be commended for his efforts this week.
I continue to pray for an end to these conflicts and for peace in both Afghanistan and Iraq. That will take great wisdom and courage on the part of many.
